March 21, 2019 – The New JCHS Update

Munson’s Prime was the location for the weekly Kiwanis meeting on March 20, 2019, and USD 475 Chief Operations Officer stopped by to provided a requested update on the new Junction City High School construction progress.

Wild reported that Bergkamp Construction commenced dirt work this week following a weather delay. The effort will include three phases with the fine grading of paving areas as the last phase to be completed by late July.

Hutton Construction issued the Utilities and Paving Request for Proposals (RFP) portion of the project on March 11th. “Without receipt of industry questions that may cause a delay, the RFP is scheduled to close on March 22nd”; Wild added.

Following evaluation of proposals, a Utilities and Paving Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is to be brought to the Board of Education during its monthly meeting on April 8th.

SJCF Architecture is working towards delivery of the final construction documents to Hutton Construction by mid-May. Hutton will then issue a building RFP in May and June with a GMP tentatively scheduled for Board of Education action during its July meeting.

Construction of the new Junction City High School is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2021. “Our objective is to open the school in August 2021 following commissioning of the building, installation of furnishings and obtaining an occupancy permit,” Wild added.
