Kansas Teacher Of The Year District Nominee Selected

JUNCTION CITY, KAN. –USD 475 announced on January 25, 2019, that Freedom Brass, from Lincoln Elementary, would be the USD 475 nominee for Kansas Teacher of the Year. Each school district is given the opportunity to nominate from within the district. Nominees must be a full-time classroom teacher in any state-approved or accredited school in USD 475, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, who is planning to continue in an active teaching status.  Freedom was chosen by a panel of previous Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees from the school district to represent USD 475 for the 2020 school year.

Freedom Brass has been with USD 475 for 11 years. She began her time with the district at Ware Elementary in 2007 and moved to Lincoln Elementary in 2013, where she currently teaches Music. Freedom studied Music Education at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and has received an AOSA Certification for levels I, II, and III along with AOSA Master Class. Freedom actively participates in staff development as a Mentor for fellow teachers and is involved in a number of civic and community events such as Student Council and Junction City Little Theatre.
