Geary County Schools USD 475 welcomed five Khbrat SUMMIT teacher-scholars from Saudi Arabia this week. These scholars have been working with Kansas State University to gain insight into US teacher preparation, curricula, content, policies/procedures, and teaching strategies.
For four weeks, these formally trained teachers will spend Monday through Wednesday at Washington Elementary working with both students and teachers to gain knowledge of the everyday workings of an American school. This learning opportunity will then move to Junction City Middle School for four weeks and conclude at Junction City High School for the last four-week experience.
Prior to working in Junction City, Khbrat SUMMIT scholars have spent time in the Kansas City, Lawrence, and Manhattan public schools. Through these opportunities, Khbrat SUMMIT scholars are afforded the ability to learn from and build their capacities for school change. This is pivotal to their examination of the need for change, differentiation, and new methods of teaching and learning in Saudi Arabia.
