Each May, Better Hearing & Speech Month (BHSM) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders. At least 20 percent of U.S. adults, at some point in their lives, have a significant problem with hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, or language. Communication disorders can compromise physical and emotional health and affect the social, educational, vocational, and recreational aspects of life.
USD 475 offers services for those with communication disorders such as translators and even a sign language class for staff. The district ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to learn in the classroom regardless of their disability.
