The Junction City High School JROTC Blue Jay Battalion held its annual awards ceremony on Friday, May 4th. Cadets who excelled in the JROTC program were recognized with special team participation certificates and school letters, academic excellence awards, physical fitness awards, air rifle qualification badges and more than 30 medals sponsored by different service, fraternal and veterans organizations who recognize superior performance by cadets.
Of particular note, the Cadet of the Year is Sierra Garner, Cadet NCO of the year is Cadet Benjamin Allen and the Cadet Officer of the Year is Cadet Warren Smith. These cadets were the winners of several competitive selection boards against their peers during the school year.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hodgson, Senior Instructor for the program, the ceremony was the culmination of a very busy year. “We had a great year again this year”, said Hodgson, “and it’s a privilege to be able to recognize them for all they’ve done in front of their families and peers. I’m very proud of all of them.”
