The 24th annual Junction City High School Academics Awards Banquet took place on Thursday, February 1, 2018, in the Henry Shenk Gymnasium on the JCHS campus. Principal Melissa Sharp welcomed the crowd of district officials, staff, parents, and students to the event and introduced the JCHS JROTC as they presented the colors. The evening of academic celebration started with a buffet dinner for attendees after Abby Khoury gave the invocation. Khoury is currently a student at Junction City High School and has become involved in many extra curricular activities at the school.
During the meal, catered by Cox Bros, guests were entertained by members of the Fine Arts Department.
Terrah Stroda, the speaker for the evening, took time to tell her story of life after graduating Junction City High School. The reoccurring theme during her speech was one of positivity and hope for a better future. She encouraged Blue Jays to power through, find the positive, and enjoy life.
The night ended with the presentation of academic letters and scholar medals (seniors) which were presented by school counselors and academy principals. A drawing was held at the end of the event and awarded six students a small scholarship of $250.00 to be put toward their further education.
The event was live-streamed on YouTube for family members who were unable to attend and for military family members who were deployed. The on demand version the event can be found below.
