The Geary County Schools USD 475 Board of Education met for a special meeting on December 18, 2017, to discuss the land survey for the new Junction City High School. This survey was conducted by KAW Valley Engineering for the Munson North property that the Board chose as the site for construction during its meeting on December 11, 2018.
Last week, the Board of Education moved to purchase the Munson North property after hearing a presentation of pros and cons for four pieces of property. Munson North is currently for sale at a price higher than the appraised amount so the Board elected to proceed with the process of eminent domain. This process will allow the district and the landowner to come up with a fair price for the land through the court system (by using three separate appraisers).
Following the approval of the survey, Tom Brungardt motioned for its acceptance and to proceed with a resolution to start the process of eminent domain. Brungardt’s motion was passed by the Board. The eminent domain process could take approximately 60 days, however, relies on the time it takes to work with the courts and the appraisers.
