USD 475 is proud to announce Project INSIGHT: An innovative Title III Project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This opportunity will provide ELL endorsements to 25 teachers in USD 475. Kansas State University will partner with five elementary schools (Franklin, Seitz, Spring Valley, Ware, and Washington) to award these lucky educators this unique experience. Targeted schools were selected based on high ELL student populations and declining numbers of ELL endorsed teachers.
Project INSIGHT will provide professional education to teachers interested in best practices for ELL students. Nine hours of graduate credit will be awarded through grant-funded online classes with an emphasis on inquiry-based and site-specific learning. This class format allows teachers to develop their own schedule for group collaboration with other district educators. Following classwork completion, two semesters of classroom implementation focusing on specific ELL strategies will be conducted. Ongoing support from university faculty throughout this process will lead to an ELL endorsement and a paid Praxis test. Praxis tests are given by the State of Kansas and are used to determine an endorsement.
Project INSIGHT is similar to other Kansas State University grants that have provided many current and former Geary County educators with ELL endorsements. USD 475 is hopeful that this is the beginning of many grant cycles that can benefit both teachers and students. It is Geary County Schools pleasure to once again be awarded such a great opportunity for their educators and students.
