Monday night lights were gleaming, the stage was set, and cameras were ready. Junction City Middle School was filled with parents, staff, and board members ready to celebrate the district’s accomplishments. The Board of Education Celebrations Meeting was underway to honor students and staff alike for their achievements and service to the district.
Students were first recognized for the Superintendent’s Three R Award which represents respect, responsibility, and positive relationships. Students who demonstrate these qualities are nominated by their building principal for the award. The following were the winners:

Students from the Junction City High School Girls Tennis Team were recognized next for being 2017/2018 State Qualifiers: Jordan Dombrowski and Codi Post.
Students from the Junction City High School Cross Country Team were recognized for being 2017/2018 State Qualifiers: Michelle Sanchez, Kailey Koomen, Christian Carter, and Isaiah Galicia.
The Junction City High School JROTC was recognized for winning 6th place at the Raider Nationals. They also earned 5th place in “The Gauntlet” and 4th place in the one-rope bridge.
It was then time to recognize staff members, beginning with the Board of Education members Tom Brungardt and Carolyn Gaston for completing the KASB Leadership Academy Training Program.
Following this the Tech Innovator Award winners were then named: Reina Cruz from JCHS, Marilyn Glazar from JCHS, Shanae Porter from Grandview Elementary, and Brittney Quelch from the Mary E. Devin Center. The USD 475 Board of Education presents the Tech Innovator Award to selected USD 475 staff members who show technology innovation in the classroom and demonstrate excellence in their job performance.
The final award of the evening, the Shining Star Award, is presented by the USD 475 Board of Education to selected staff members who provide exceptional service to or credit upon the school district. These award winners were: Kaesy Butler from Junction City Middle School, Lauren Davis from Junction City Middle School, Mike Gross from Junction City High School, Jackie Herron from Spring Valley Elementary, Skyler Manning from Sheridan Elementary, Jillian Toms from Sheridan Elementary.
