October is Energy Awareness Month

October brings football, pumpkin lattes, Halloween costumes and many other fun seasonal changes. October can also be celebrated for a much different reason. In September 1991, President George Bush declared October as National Energy Awareness Month, encouraging organizations to raise awareness of the importance of sustainably managing the nation’s energy resources. USD 475 would like to promote understanding of the district’s energy needs and simple ways to reduce the amount of energy consumed. The flyer below is meant to inspire consumers to take proactive steps to save energy. It explains that Vampire Energy is any device plugged in that draws energy, even when it is not in use. Nineteen billion dollars are wasted each year in the United States on vampire Energy.

To stop energy vampires you can:

  • unplug devices you don’t frequently use
  • use power strips
  • power down computers

Geary County Schools is doing our part to save energy this month, and every month. What can you do to save energy at home and at the office?
