Back to School Health Checks

On August 5, The Geary County Health Department will be teaming up with the Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers on Chestnut Street in Junction City to provide immunizations. Freddy’s is providing a free small cup or cone of frozen custard to every child who comes and receives their back to school immunizations.

There are standard immunizations that every child must be current on for the school year and this is an opportunity to have them completed before school starts. Children entering middle school (age 11) are due for their Tdap, HPV, and meningitis vaccines. Parents of children getting ready to begin kindergarten need to be sure that they are current on their vaccines as well. If you are unsure about what your children may need, you may stop by the Health Department event with a copy of your child’s immunization records and have a nurse review them for you.

If you have any questions about any vaccines or what the requirements are, please call the Geary County Health Department Nurse at (785) 762-5788.
