National Flip Flop Day

Flip-flops are a summer staple; no beach vacation is complete without them. Did you know that the idea for flip-flops has been around since 4000 BC? In Ancient Egypt sandals resembling the flip-flop were worn; often made of palm-leaves and papyrus.

In ancient Greece, sandals were the most common type of shoes worn by women. The Greek sandals featured many straps with which they securely fastened to the foot. The top of the sandals were usually made with colored leather. The soles were made of cattle skin and often used elaborate designs.

Although far from elaborate, the flip-flop is the most common type of sandal in the world and is celebrated as such on June 16, 2017, National Flip Flop Day!
