AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other post-secondary opportunities. This organization was established more than 35 years ago and today impacts nearly 1.5 million student in 46 states. AVID’s college readiness system trains educators to make learning more effective by providing engaging, rigorous, and collaborative classrooms. The goal is to develop lifelong learning habits through academic and social support.
Junction City Middle School has now had AVID for seven years and plans to continue this successful college readiness program. They are even working toward becoming a National Demo Site for the program. This would mean that visitors could observe the school-wide AVID approach to college readiness and evidence of student achievement.
