National Take Your Parents to the Playground Day

Kids primary job: Have fun and play!

The third Sunday in May celebrates this concept with National Take Your Parents to the Playground Day, May 21st this year. Outdoor play offers physical activity and engages children’s imagination which contributes to developing creativity as well as self-confidence. Playing with others also includes requires focus and attention. As a result, playing can teach leadership and negotiation skills. Children become healthier, smarter, and happier the more they play.

The first Take Your Parents to the Playground Day was celebrated on April 4, 2009, in an effort to motivate children to get outdoors and take their parents with them.  This day follows Children and Nature Awareness Month, which was established to call attention to the importance of providing opportunities for all children to experience frequent play in outdoor settings. Take Your Parents to the Playground Day provides an excellent opportunity to continue that initiative’s message with more families.

There are several parks and playgrounds located in the Geary County Schools and Junction City, Kansas area: Playground Park, Sertoma Park, Coronado Park, Heritage Park, South Park, Cleary Park, and Helland Park just to name a few. National Take Your Parents to the Playground Day increases the value of play exponentially by involving the whole family. We’ve created a map with several great options in our area for your family to try on May 21st and throughout the summer.
