Fort Riley Middle School kick-started National Physical Education and Sport week by hosting their annual Wellness Fair on Friday, April 28, 2017. Bethany College’s Track and Field/Cross Country Coach Aaron Yoder welcomed the students and spoke to them about the importance of Positivity, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence (FRMS Trooper Traditions P.R.I.D.E.) He focused primarily on determination and how it helped him to become the World Record Holder in the Backwards Mile. His world record is a 5:54 backward mile! Coach Yoder demonstrated his backward running and drills out on the track for some spectators as well.
Throughout the day, each grade level enjoyed activities led by area businesses, organizations, and individuals. These health care professionals came from Fort Riley, Junction City, and Manhattan to support our efforts. Students were engaged in physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial, and/or environmental wellness activities in both gyms, the fitness room, classrooms, hallways, and outdoors. Thank you to all who helped to make the wellness fair a successful educational activity!
National Physical Education and Sport week is May 1-7.
